Malaga Museum and City Tour

New Luxury Travel Experiences for 2017

The privately owned El Carligto Estate comprises two stylish villas that set a new standard of luxury for the private villa rental, offering unique experiences to stir the heart and enrich the soul. Our luxury travel experiences have been specially crafted to offer the most authentic experiences across Andalucía. We aim to expanding horizons and to provide cultural enrichment for travellers looking for a truly unique experiential holiday. Malaga, the city where one of the world’s most beloved artists Pablo Picasso was born, is fabulously rich in both culture and history. This thriving port city leaves few boxes unticked – beaches, harbour, historic centre, hilltop castle, food scene. Think Barcelona, but smaller, calmer and sunnier. Working alongside expert travel designers Paladar y Tomar we strive to offer one-of-a-kind experiences giving access to the inaccessible. We have put together a new luxury experiential travel experience to celebrate the museums and galleries of Malaga whilst simultaneously enjoying tastebud-tingling cuisine and carefully-selected wines to complement.

Exploring the Relationship Between Food and Culture

Become immersed in the culinary tradition of Malaga as you experience the inspiring role of food and wine in artistic circles. Gastronomy articulates our social identity; the development of the art of cookery represents an innate urge toward betterment in its purest form. More than any other food or drink, wine particularly has been used by philosophers and artists to exemplify concepts and emotions, and banquets have been the most important social ritual throughout history. All kinds of art, architecture, engineering and even mathematics have been developed in search of safer farming and food practices. In every society without exception, eating and drinking have been used as social status differentiators. We will introduce and explore this intrinsic link between food and culture, starting with a visit to the Moorish Alcazaba, which dominates the bay on a jagged hill above the city. The Alcazaba was built around 780AD and is one of two Moorish fortresses in Malaga, as well as being the best-preserved Moorish fortress palace in Spain. Your skilled guide will then introduce you to the Malaga’s alluring old quarter and colourful market, the Mercado de Atarazanas, which is one of the most appealing in all Andalucía. A kaleidoscope of stalls selling fresh fish, meat, spices, deli items, fruit and vegetables will stir the senses and inspire the soul.

Art Galleries and Museums in Malaga

You will then head to two unmissable stops for art lovers: the Casa Natal de Picasso which celebrates the life and works of Malaga’s most prized son displaying interesting artefacts, ceramics, and paintings done by Picasso himself. You will also have a privileged view of personal mementos of the Picasso family as well as the paintings, drawings, ceramics, engravings and sculptures which chart Picasso's progress from the late 19th century until his death in 1973. Next up is the incredible Carmen Thyssen Museum; a sixteenth-century palace containing Málaga’s most comprehensive Spanish art collection. The Spanish artwork of the 19th and early 20th centuries are largely represented by the work of some of the greats such as Sorolla, Zurbarán and José Benlliure.

After a culture-filled morning it is then time for lunch. You will enjoy a great tapas style menu and guided through it by the perfect host who will explain all the specialties. Paired with exciting wines to complement each dish, thus concludes the perfect experiential travel tour in Malaga.

We hope you love exploring this great city with all its cultural diversities and palate-pleasing gastronomy as much as we do.
